Trần Hưng Đạo

Trần Hưng Đạo was a Vietnamese prince and military commander who led Đại Việt’s resistance to Mongol invasions in the 13th century. He is also known as Trần Quốc Tuấn.

Battle of Bạch Đằng (1288): A 1288 naval battle in which Đại Việt forces defeated a Mongol fleet on the Bạch Đằng River. Trần Hưng Đạo’s forces used concealed stakes and the river’s tides to destroy the invading fleet.
Binh thư yếu lược: A Vietnamese military treatise traditionally attributed to Trần Hưng Đạo. The work preserves the military principles associated with his strategic leadership.
Trần Thánh Tông: The second emperor of Vietnam’s Trần dynasty, reigning from 1258 to 1278. He entrusted Trần Hưng Đạo with major military responsibilities during the first Mongol invasion.
