Translanguaging

Translanguaging is a perspective on multilingual practice that treats speakers’ linguistic resources as an integrated repertoire rather than separate, self-contained languages.

Translanguaging space: A social and cognitive space in which multilingual people combine resources to make meaning and reshape identities. It describes the space where integrated linguistic resources become meaningful social practice.
Cen Williams: A Welsh educator whose work introduced the term translanguaging for a bilingual classroom practice. His account of Welsh-English teaching supplied the term’s educational starting point.
Translanguaging pedagogy: An approach to teaching that deliberately uses learners’ full linguistic repertoires to support learning. It turns the perspective into classroom practices such as multilingual discussion and resource use.
