Treaty of Bucharest (1913)

The peace treaty signed on 10 August 1913 that ended the Second Balkan War and redistributed Ottoman-held and disputed territory among the Balkan states.

Second Balkan War: A 1913 war in which Bulgaria fought its former allies and neighboring states over the division of Macedonia. The treaty ended this war after Bulgaria’s defeat.
Territorial change: A change in the boundaries or sovereignty of a territory. The treaty’s central operation was assigning disputed lands to states.
Balkan League: An alliance of Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece, and Montenegro formed in 1912 to fight the Ottoman Empire. Its members’ competing claims led directly to the war settled at Bucharest.
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace: A nonprofit organization founded in 1910 to promote international cooperation and peace. Its 1914 inquiry documented atrocities and displacement associated with the Balkan Wars and their aftermath.
