Treaty of Paris (1856)

The peace treaty that ended the Crimean War in 1856. It neutralized the Black Sea and restricted Russian military presence there.

Black Sea neutrality: The treaty rule barring warships and naval arsenals on the Black Sea. This was the treaty’s central restriction on Russian naval power.
Crimean War: A war fought from 1853 to 1856 between Russia and an alliance including the Ottoman Empire, Britain, France, and Sardinia. The treaty ended this conflict after Russia’s defeat.

Treaty of London (1871): A treaty that ended the Black Sea neutrality provisions of the 1856 settlement. Russia secured the right to maintain a Black Sea fleet again through this agreement.
