Twenty-third Dynasty of Egypt

An ancient Egyptian dynasty of the Third Intermediate Period whose rulers governed parts of Egypt during the eighth century BCE, amid competing regional powers.

Third Intermediate Period of Egypt: The era of political division and changing dynasties in Egypt between the New Kingdom and the Late Period. The dynasty formed within this era of divided rule and competing centers of power.
Leontopolis: An ancient city in the Nile Delta, identified with Tell el-Muqdam and associated with some Twenty-third Dynasty rulers. It is linked to one proposed center of the dynasty’s Delta branch.
Takelot III: A Twenty-third Dynasty ruler associated with Thebes whose reign is dated to the eighth century BCE. His inscriptions and succession help trace the dynasty’s Theban line.
