Underground comix

Underground comix are independently produced American comics that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s, often using explicit content and satire to challenge censorship and social norms.

Robert Crumb: An American cartoonist whose work helped define underground comix. His comics and distinctive characters helped bring the movement national attention.
Comics Code Authority: A self-regulatory body that reviewed American comic books under an industry code adopted in 1954. Underground publishers avoided its restrictions by selling outside conventional comic-book channels.
