UNRRA

The United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, a 1943–1947 agency that delivered food, shelter and medical care to liberated war zones.

Marshall Plan: The 1948–1952 US program granting about $13 billion to rebuild Western European productive capacity. Relief ended where recovery began; the plan funded factories and trade, not food and shelter.
League of Nations: The interwar international organization whose refugee and health work furnished UNRRA's administrative precedents. UNRRA inherited staff, methods and lessons from League humanitarian machinery.
Atlantic Charter: The 1941 Roosevelt–Churchill declaration of Allied war aims, including economic welfare commitments. Its pledge of improved labor standards and welfare underlay the relief planning ethos.
UNRRA in Yugoslavia: UNRRA's largest single operation, delivering about $515 million of supplies from 1945 to 1947. Drew fire from the US Congress for aiding a communist-led government.

lend-lease: The American wartime program supplying Allies with materiel on credit before UNRRA existed. UNRRA's funding and supply pipeline was modeled on lend-lease logistics.
United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Agreement: The 1943 founding treaty signed by 44 Allied nations in Washington. Created UNRRA, defining relief as a collective Allied responsibility.
UNRRA in China: A large postwar relief program complicated by civil war and nationalist control of supplies. Its China operation ended in controversy over diversion of aid.
