Vallabhbhai Patel

Vallabhbhai Patel (1875–1950) was an Indian independence leader and statesman who became independent India’s first deputy prime minister and home minister. He led the integration of princely states into the Indian Union.

Integration of the Princely States: The process by which princely states joined the newly independent Indian Union, chiefly between 1947 and 1949. Patel directed the political negotiations that brought most princely states into the Union.
Bardoli Satyagraha: A 1928 nonviolent campaign in Gujarat against increased land revenue, led by local farmers and Vallabhbhai Patel. Its successful organization established Patel as a major mass leader.
