The system of petroleum extraction, refining, and export in Venezuela. Oil has long supplied a large share of the country’s public revenue and foreign exchange.

Orinoco Belt: A vast heavy-oil deposit in eastern Venezuela and one of the world’s largest known hydrocarbon accumulations. Its extra-heavy crude is a major focus of Venezuela’s current production potential.
