Viceroyalty of Peru

The Viceroyalty of Peru was a Spanish colonial territory established in 1542 and governed from Lima. It once covered much of Spanish South America before territorial reforms and independence movements dismantled it.

Viceroy of Peru: The Spanish monarch’s chief representative and highest colonial executive in the Viceroyalty of Peru. Viceroys exercised royal authority from Lima and directed the territory’s government.
