Walter Ulbricht

Walter Ulbricht was a German communist politician who led the Socialist Unity Party of East Germany from 1950 to 1971 and helped establish the German Democratic Republic’s political system.

Wilhelm Pieck: A German communist politician who served as the German Democratic Republic’s first president from 1949 to 1960. Pieck shared East Germany’s top leadership with Ulbricht during the republic’s founding decade.
