Wide-angle lens

A camera lens with a short focal length and a broad angle of view. It captures more of a scene than a normal lens from the same position.

Angle of view: The angular extent of a scene recorded by an optical system. A wide-angle lens records a larger angle of the scene from a fixed position.
Landscape photography: The practice of photographing natural or built environments as expansive scenes. A broad field of view can include foreground, terrain, and sky in one frame.
Normal lens: A lens whose angle of view approximates the perspective commonly associated with human vision. A normal lens covers less of the scene and usually renders less exaggerated near-to-far scale.
Camera lens: An optical assembly that focuses light to form an image on a camera’s sensor or film. A wide-angle lens is one design within the broader family of camera lenses.

Telephoto lens: A lens with a long focal length that gives a narrow angle of view and magnifies distant subjects. Telephoto lenses isolate distant subjects, while wide-angle lenses include more surrounding context.
Image sensor format: The physical dimensions and aspect ratio of a camera’s image sensor. Sensor dimensions determine how much of a lens’s projected image contributes to the recorded view.
