William Jennings Bryan

William Jennings Bryan was an American politician and orator who served as secretary of state and won the Democratic presidential nomination in 1896, 1900, and 1908. His advocacy of free silver, populism, and prohibition made him a defining voice in American politics.

William McKinley: William McKinley was the 25th president of the United States and the Republican presidential candidate in 1896 and 1900. He defeated Bryan in both presidential elections, defending the gold standard and protective tariffs.
Free silver: Free silver was a monetary policy allowing silver to be coined freely alongside gold at a legally fixed ratio. Bryan made free silver the central demand of his 1896 campaign.
