Woodwind instrument

A musical instrument that produces sound when air vibrates within it, typically through a reed or across an opening. Its family includes both single-note instruments and those with multiple pipes, such as the organ.

Air column: A body of air that resonates at particular frequencies when excited by vibration. The vibrating air column supplies the sound in most woodwinds.
Musical instrument: An object or system designed to produce musical sound. Woodwinds are one family within the broader world of musical instruments.
