Yamal Peninsula

A peninsula in northwestern Siberia, Russia, extending into the Kara Sea. It is inhabited chiefly by Nenets people and contains extensive natural-gas deposits.

Kara Sea: A marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean north of western Siberia. The peninsula projects into this sea along its northern and western shores.
Bovanenkovo gas field: A major natural-gas field on the Yamal Peninsula in Russia. Its development became the centerpiece of industrial gas production on the peninsula.
Reindeer herding: The raising and management of reindeer, often through seasonal movement across grazing lands. Nomadic Nenets herding routes cross areas also used for gas infrastructure.

Sabetta: A port and settlement on the eastern coast of the Yamal Peninsula. Its port and LNG facilities anchor the peninsula’s major export infrastructure.
