Zhu De

Zhu De (1886–1976) was a Chinese Communist military leader who helped establish the Red Army and the People’s Liberation Army. He served as commander-in-chief, vice president of the People’s Republic of China, and chairman of the National People’s Congress.

Mao Zedong: Mao Zedong was a Chinese Communist revolutionary who led the People’s Republic of China from its founding until 1976. His partnership with Zhu shaped Communist military strategy and leadership.
Yunnan Military Academy: Yunnan Military Academy was a military school in Kunming that trained officers for China’s early twentieth-century conflicts. Zhu received military training there before joining revolutionary forces.
Chinese Red Army: The Chinese Red Army was the armed force of the Chinese Communist Party before the establishment of the People’s Republic. Zhu became one of its principal commanders and helped shape its early organization.
Vice President of the People's Republic of China: The vice presidency of the People’s Republic of China is a senior state office subordinate to the presidency. Zhu held the office from 1954 to 1959.
Zhou Enlai: Zhou Enlai was a Chinese Communist leader who served as the People’s Republic of China’s first premier. He worked alongside Zhu in the party and state leadership.
Xinhai Revolution: The Xinhai Revolution of 1911 overthrew China’s Qing dynasty and established the Republic of China. Zhu served in military campaigns during the upheaval that ended imperial rule.
Jinggangshan: Jinggangshan is a mountainous region where Chinese Communist forces established a revolutionary base in the late 1920s. Zhu’s forces joined Mao’s base there, strengthening the emerging Red Army.
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress: The chairman of the Standing Committee leads China’s legislature when the National People’s Congress is not in session. Zhu held this office from 1959 until his death in 1976.
Liu Bocheng: Liu Bocheng was a Chinese Communist military commander and marshal of the People’s Liberation Army. He was among the commanders who built the Communist armed forces with Zhu.
Yunnan Uprising: The Yunnan Uprising of 1915 opposed Yuan Shikai’s attempt to restore monarchy and helped defend the republic. Zhu joined the forces resisting Yuan’s imperial restoration.
