Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr

Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr was a Muslim leader who claimed the caliphate from 683 to 692 and ruled much of the Islamic world before Umayyad forces defeated him.

Yazid I: Yazid I was the Umayyad caliph from 680 to 683, whose accession and rule provoked major opposition. His death in 683 created the succession crisis in which Ibn al-Zubayr asserted his caliphal claim.
Caliph: A caliph is a leader claiming political succession to Muhammad in the Muslim community. Ibn al-Zubayr’s claim rested on being recognized as caliph by supporters across several regions.
Husayn ibn Ali: Husayn ibn Ali was Muhammad’s grandson and a leading claimant whose death at Karbala became a lasting symbol of resistance. Both men opposed Umayyad authority, though their claims and political circumstances differed.
