Air power

Air power is the use of military aircraft and other airborne capabilities to achieve strategic or tactical objectives. It includes combat, surveillance, transport, and support missions.

Air superiority: A degree of control of the air that lets friendly forces operate without prohibitive interference from enemy air power. It protects air missions and shapes what forces can do across a theater.
Military aviation: The use of aircraft and related systems by armed forces for combat and support missions. Air power grew from the broader practice of military aviation.
Air reconnaissance: The collection of information about enemy forces, terrain, or activity using aircraft or airborne sensors. Information from the air can guide targeting and operational decisions.
Sea power: The use of naval forces and maritime influence to achieve political or military objectives. It offers a parallel theory of control over a domain, with different constraints.
Combined arms: The coordinated use of different military capabilities so that their effects support one another. Air power is most often employed alongside land and maritime forces.
Close air support: Air action against hostile targets near friendly forces, coordinated with those forces to avoid harm and support their operations. It shows air power working directly with troops in contact.
World War I: A global war fought from 1914 to 1918, marked by industrialized combat and the first sustained military use of aircraft. Wartime reconnaissance and air combat established early military roles for aircraft.
Military transport aircraft: Aircraft designed to carry troops, equipment, or supplies for armed forces. Air transport moves forces and matériel across obstacles and long distances.
Land power: The ability of ground forces to control territory and influence events through operations on land. It contrasts air forces' reach with the persistent physical control of territory.
Civilian casualties: Deaths and injuries among people who are not members of a conflict's armed forces. Air attacks can impose severe human costs, especially in populated areas.
