Alfonso VI of León and Castile

Alfonso VI was king of León from 1065 and of Castile from 1072 until his death in 1109. His reign expanded Christian rule in Iberia, most notably through the conquest of Toledo in 1085.

Conquest of Toledo (1085): The capture of Toledo by Alfonso VI’s forces in 1085, bringing the city under Christian rule. This major victory extended Alfonso’s authority south of the Douro and alarmed neighboring Muslim rulers.
Partition of the Kingdom of León: The division of Ferdinand I’s territories among his sons after his death in 1065. Alfonso’s initial inheritance was León, while his brothers received Castile and Galicia.
