Logic gate

A logic gate is an electronic circuit that implements a Boolean operation on binary inputs, producing an output determined by the input values.

Boolean algebra: An algebraic system in which variables take values such as true and false and operations combine them. Its operations define the functions that logic gates implement.
AND gate: A logic gate whose output is one only when every input is one. It implements conjunction, one of the basic Boolean operations.
Adder (electronics): A digital circuit that performs addition on binary numbers. Combinations of gates produce the sum and carry outputs.
Relay logic: A method of implementing logical functions with electrically controlled switches and relays. It performs similar switching functions using electromechanical components.
Binary number: A numeral system that represents values using the digits zero and one. Gate inputs and outputs are commonly encoded as binary digits.
OR gate: A logic gate whose output is one when at least one input is one. It implements inclusive disjunction, another basic Boolean operation.
Multiplexer: A digital circuit that selects one of several inputs and forwards it to an output. Gate networks implement controlled selection among data signals.
Vacuum tube: An electronic device that controls current flow through a vacuum. Vacuum tubes implemented early electronic logic before transistors dominated.
Digital signal: A signal that represents information using a finite set of distinct values. Logic gates process digital signals rather than continuously varying values.
NOT gate: A one-input logic gate that outputs the complement of its input. It supplies the inversion used in many gate circuits.
