London Missionary Society

The London Missionary Society was a British Protestant organization founded in 1795 to spread Christianity overseas. It sent missionaries to Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and other regions.

Evangelical Revival: A movement of renewed Protestant religious fervor that emphasized conversion, scripture, and organized evangelism. The revival supplied the religious energy and supporters behind the Society’s formation.
Congregational Missionary Society: A British Congregationalist missionary organization formed in 1795 as the London Missionary Society. This was the Society’s original name before it became known by its London title.
Robert Morrison: A Scottish Protestant missionary and scholar who translated the Bible into Chinese. The Society sent him to China, where his linguistic work became central to its mission.
