Tibet

Tibet is a high plateau region north of the Himalayas, shaped by Tibetan languages, Buddhism, and varied political histories. Its cultural and historical ties with Bhutan include shared religious traditions and exchanges across Himalayan routes.

Tibetan Plateau: A vast high plateau in Central and East Asia, bounded by major mountain ranges. Its elevations and terrain form the physical core of the region called Tibet.

Panchen Lama: A senior Tibetan Buddhist title associated with the Tashilhunpo Monastery and the Gelug school. The office forms a distinct center of religious authority alongside the Dalai Lama.
Sikkim: A Himalayan region and former kingdom between Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet, now a state of India. Its Buddhist institutions and historical ties connect Tibet with the central Himalayas.
1959 Tibetan uprising: An uprising in Lhasa against Chinese rule that led the Dalai Lama to flee into exile. The revolt transformed Tibetan governance and created a large exile community.
