Ifriqiya

Ifriqiya was a medieval North African region centered on present-day Tunisia, encompassing parts of eastern Algeria and western Libya. Its borders shifted across periods and political regimes.

Africa Proconsularis: A Roman province in North Africa centered on the territory of present-day Tunisia. Its territory supplied the core of the region later known as Ifriqiya.
Aghlabids: A Sunni Muslim dynasty that ruled Ifriqiya from 800 to 909 as nominal Abbasid governors. Their emirate made Ifriqiya a durable center of regional government.
Kairouan: A city in present-day Tunisia founded in the seventh century and a major center of Islamic North Africa. It served as an early capital and religious center of Ifriqiya.
