Photographic fixer

A chemical bath that removes undeveloped silver halide from photographic film or paper, making the image resistant to further light exposure.

Silver halide: A family of light-sensitive compounds made from silver and halogens, used in traditional photographic emulsions. Undeveloped silver halide is the material the fixer must dissolve.
Black-and-white photography: Photography that records images primarily through variations in brightness rather than color. Fixer is essential to the standard chemical processing of silver-based black-and-white materials.
